Moving the Cargo Needle - New Airline & Redevelopment Update

News Image DFW Advances its Cargo Strategy with New Service

Silk Way West cargo joined our lineup this month with weekly service originating in Seoul and further connecting DFW to Baku, Azerbaijan, a Eurasian country on the Caspian Sea.

Driven by the electronics and consumer goods sectors, this new service further strengthens DFW’s Asia-Pacific air cargo network and supports the Airport’s strategy to connect transit freight between Asia and Latin America.

Silk Way West’s arrival in DFW comes after an almost two-year postponement of service due the COVID-19 pandemic.

Update on 19th Street Redevelopment Project

At the January Board meeting, John Ackerman, executive vice president global strategy and development, shared a presentation which detailed how DFW plans to ease constraints and develop facilities to meet strong air cargo demand with plans for more airside cargo facilities and freighter aircraft parking spaces. Plans are to redevelop an airside area on the Airport’s west side to include:

  • Two state-of-the-art cargo facilities totaling approximately 300,000 square feet
  • Eight new Category 6 aircraft parking positions with hydrant fueling
  • An additional taxi lane for added flexibility during peak times

An official Board action on the plan will be presented in the future.
